Is The Pressure High Today?
Use today’s number as a reference, not a verdict. Standard sea-level pressure is 1013.25 hPa, approximately 29.92 inHg. This is a fixed reference, not your city’s measured average. Why Sea-Level Pressure
Raw surface pressure changes with elevation. Sea-level pressure normalizes the reading so a city at altitude and a city near the coast can be compared more cleanly. That is why it is the better default for a “barometric pressure today” tool.
A reading above 1013.25 hPa is above the standard atmosphere reference, not necessarily above the average for your city or season. The labels here compare against that fixed reference; they do not identify weather systems or safety thresholds. Check the surrounding weather pattern and recent trend.
Sea-level pressure is normalized for elevation, which makes it more useful for comparing cities, forecasts, and weather maps. Raw surface pressure is still useful locally, but it is harder to compare between places.
A single reading can be misleading on its own. A 7 day graph shows whether pressure is broadly rising, falling, or holding steady, which gives more context for weather awareness and routine planning.
