Frequently asked questions about Barometric Pressure.

Barometric pressure readings and their history are generated locally using your device’s pressure and altitude sensors to calculate sea-level pressure. Forecast requires internet access and sends the city search or selected location information, together with anonymous request credentials, to retrieve forecast data. Barometer does not require an account or collect names or email addresses. This information is used only to fulfill and authenticate requests and is not used to build user or location profiles. Forecast data and recent cities are stored locally on your device.

Depending on the device and iOS version, altitude estimation may require Wi-Fi to be enabled. However, it does not need to be connected to a network; it only needs to be turned on for the sensors to work properly. An internet connection is only required to download forecast data.

Motion & Fitness may be required to obtain pressure and altitude data from the device. Location can provide altitude when needed and lets Forecast display data for your current city. If Location access is denied, Forecast uses a saved fallback city, and you can search for another city manually.

Enable Settings > General > Background App Refresh for Barometer and avoid force-closing the app. iOS determines when background updates run, so their frequency is outside our control. Typically, History receives between one and three measurements per hour.

Swipe left on a measurement and tap the note action, or touch and hold the row and choose the add/edit note option. Notes are stored with that specific measurement.

Tendency uses sea-level pressure measurements from the previous three hours. It requires at least four measurements and compares the oldest and newest values to determine whether pressure is increasing, decreasing, or stable. The Daily Forecast also displays each day’s tendency compared with the previous day.

Forecast displays pressure charts for Today, 72 hours, 7 days, or 16 days. The Daily Forecast includes today and the following days, showing each day’s minimum, maximum, and pressure tendency. Drag the red dot on a chart to inspect the forecast pressure for a specific time.

Forecast initially requests your current location. If access is denied, it keeps the same randomly selected fallback city. Searching for and selecting a city makes it the default Forecast location. Your four most recently selected cities are stored locally on your device and displayed in Search.

Yes. Once a forecast has been downloaded, the cached data remains available without internet access. Barometer will eventually need a connection to download newer forecast data as the cached forecast period expires. A connection is also required when manually pulling to refresh.

When alerts are enabled, Barometer can notify you about significant pressure changes detected by your device or expected during upcoming forecast days.
